The Group of Socialists, Democrats and Greens of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, strongly condemns the unfair and fully ungrounded arrest of Enes Hocaoğullari in Türkiye on 4 August.

Enes Hocaoğullari was elected as youth delegate to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. Last March he held a passionate speech during the session of the Congress condemning the arrests of mayors in his country and the police violence during the peaceful manifestations.
His only crime was speaking out in defending the core values of democracy and the freedom of speech.
We urge the Turkish authorities to release all defenders of democracy and human rights and to respect its commitments towards the Council of Europe.
